Noa Mobilio’s Artist Statement

Growing up as introverted as I was, I was eager to find a way to express myself with as few words as possible, and what I found was a graphite pencil and numerous sheets of printer paper. That pencil turned into a paintbrush, carving tools, clay, and pastels, and those sheets of paper turned into sketchbooks, canvases, linoleum, and wood. My desire to explore various mediums and find new ways of utilizing materials is something that constantly drives my work forward. Today, I prefer gouache painting and printmaking. The vibrant colors and many ways of using gouache excite me, and the repetition and reproduction of printmaking makes possible my desire to spread my art far and wide.

I draw inspiration from nature and often depict landscapes, plants, animals and insects in my work. I combine these depictions with surrealist aesthetics to create my most compelling pieces. It is important that my audience can relate to my work and that my designs evoke some thought or emotion personal to each viewer. My goal is to make my art accessible to everyone, and therefore I see entrepreneurship and product design in my immediate future. I want my art to reach the individual; for them to hang my prints in their home, wear my clothing, and place my stickers on their laptops. To create something with my own two hands is the most gratifying feeling, and although the incredibly shy young girl I once was wanted to keep her thoughts to herself, the artist I am now wants my voice to be heard around the world.
